E Mālama Pono, Willy Boy

Scott Kekama Amona - Makawalu Films

A short narrative film about Honolulu police officer William “Willy Boy” Kupihea, who is called in on his day off to evict Hawaiian residents of a settlement deemed illegal by the State of Hawaii. While he and his jaded partner Leonard Akina do last sweeps before bulldozers move in to demolish the encampment, the pair quickly discover their conflicting views. Things heat up when Kupihea makes an unexpected discovery in an abandoned truck at the last dwelling—one that challenges what is legally pono versus culturally pono—forcing him to choose between duty and protecting the community he serves.
