EarthRights International

ERI is a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization that combines the power of law and the power of people in defense of human rights and the environment.

We specialize in fact-finding, legal actions against perpetrators of earth rights abuses, training grassroots and community leaders, and advocacy campaigns.

Involvement in film

We operate from the local level to the global level. Locally we have helped communities access resources to decide on their own futures when it comes to large-scale mining projects, extractives, and mega-dams. We settled against a US oil company in Peru after 10 years of litigation. The affected indigenous communities in the Corrientes region had been suffering the consequences of the environmental degradation for years. We also helped numerous women settle with a Canadian gold mining giant in Papua New Guinea, after allegations of rape. We also incorporated storytelling and video as one of our main strategies, and developed co-powered storytelling as one of our main strategies. We started holding community video training programs in Southeast Asia so that communities would have the tools and skills to tell their own stories.

We can only do what we do because of organisations and individuals who support our work.
Thank you everyone.
