Involvement in film

kineforum was established in 2006. It is the first programmed alternative cinema in Jakarta whose program ranged from classics to contemporary, from Indonesia and the world. kineforum's screening program is aimed to include their audience to be a part of cinema history, then and now.

This alternative cinema was initiated as a response to the lack of non-commercial cinema in Jakarta and the need to facilitate a culture-exchange space via audio-visual works. It offers a platform for filmmakers (from Indonesia and the world) to showcase their works which are seldom favorable to the commercial cinema chains in Indonesia. It also serves as a public space to introduce non-mainstream films with educational and cultural content from which the audience can benefit from.

Aside from film screenings, kineforum also host q &a session or meet & greet between the filmmakers and their audience. It also programs thematic discussions about the films and/or about the issues presented in the film program.

kineforum is a not-for-profit movie theatre. It is one of the Jakarta Arts Council's program, run by a group of film enthusiasts. Supported by the Jakarta Capital City Government and the XXI Cineplex, all films are screened on a large screen, with high quality cinema sound system. Their programs are focused on education and distribution of knowledge, through cinema works, to general public.
