Piraya Film AS is an independent Norwegian production company that makes creative, political and philosophical documentary films for worldwide distribution. In recent years, Piraya Film has been focusing on human rights and freedom of expression issues under totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, as well as in war and warlike situations. The company has succeeded in delivering award-winning films like Love City Jalalabad, Russian Lessons, Gulabi Gang, Yodok Stories, Back to the Square, Belarusian Waltz and On a Tightrope.

Involvement in film

"Piraya Film’s productions and co-productions have participated in hundreds of international festivals, have received about 150 awards and been nominated for even more. This includes nominations for the Academy Awards (Oscar) and Emmy Awards, and winner of e.g. European Film Academy Award, Prix Arte, Asia Pacific Screen Award, Grand Prix Dubai, Golden Chair Grimstad 2010, 2012 and 2013, Grand Prix Chicago, Grand Prix Watchdocs and In the spirit of freedom award, Jerusalem. Piraya Film are active in international co-productions and recently co-produced a number of films with solid international partners, like The Look of Silence and The Act of Killing (Final Cut for Real), My Afghanistan (Magic Hour Films), The Pirate Bay AFK (Nonami), Dance of Outlaws (Illume Oy), and Farewell Comrades! (Artline Films & Gebrueder Beetz). Several of the films where we are main producers have international co-production partners, such as Gulabi Gang, Inside Fur, Yodok Stories, Back to the Square and many more
