I am a development practitioner and an activist for more than 25 years.

Development Sector: I founded Sangama, a premier sexual minorities and sex workers rights organisation and visioned and/or headed rights-based NGOs – Sangama, Aneka, Suraksha, Solidarity Foundation and Sanchaya Nele.

I conceived and actively supported the formation of independent advocacy-focused community organisations – Karnataka Sexual Minorities Forum, Karnataka Sex Workers Union, Karnataka Vikalachethanara Sanghatane (organisation of persons with disabilities, Chikkaballapura District). I initiated/ mentored networks and platforms - South Asia Human Rights Association http://sahra.asia/, Coalition for Sexual Minorities and Sexworkers Rights (based in Bangalore), National Network of Sex Workers http://nnswindia.org/, Bangalore Citizens Initiative for Peace, Narmada Solidarity Forum, For Gender Justice (responded to Nirbhaya incident by organising a series of ‘Freedom Miles’ public walks for women’s safety in Bangalore) and NorthEast Solidarity.

I served as the Vice Chair of the India Country Coordination Mechanism for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Activism: Worked with/supported/ part of Students Federation of India, People's Union for Civil Liberties http://pucl.org/, Narmada Bachao Andolan, National Alliance of People's Movements http://napm-india.org/ and many initiatives on issues of class, caste, gender, ecology, anti-war, anti-communalism...

Active in struggle for alternative politics through Swaraj Abhiyan http://www.swarajabhiyan.org/
