Mark Achbar


Mark Achbar was the driving force behind the two most successful Canadian feature documentaries ever made. His five-year collaboration with Peter Wintonick resulted in MANUFACTURING CONSENT: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992) and six years working with Joel Bakan and Jennifer Abbott gave us THE CORPORATION (2003). Both surprise box office hits, they won a combined total of 48 awards, among them 14 audience choice awards, including Sundance. In recognition of The Corporation’s success, Telefilm Canada granted Achbar’s company, Big Picture Media Corporation funding which alllowed him to help finance and EP several award-winning feature documentaries including FIERCE LIGHT, Velcrow Ripper (2008); PAX AMERICANA and the Weaponization of Space, Denis Delestrac (2009); WATERLIFE, Kevin McMahon (2009); SURVIVING PROGRESS, Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks (2011); and NEURONS TO NIRVANA, Oliver Hockenhull (2013). Achbar was also EP on BLUE GOLD: World Water Wars, Sam Bozzo (2008); MARMATO, Mark Grieco (2014); and FRACTURED LAND, Fiona Rayher and Damien Gillis (2015).
