Good Pitch² India 2014

4th February, 2014

Good Pitch² India 2014 is a satellite event, organised and run independently by the Indian Documentary Foundation in association with Kerala State Chalchitra Academy and Films Division, Govt of India.

Tuesday February 4th was the day that Good Pitch² came to Mumbai. And what a day! Truly, it shared all the magic we have come to expect from a Good Pitch day, with some unique Indian twists of its own. The weekend prior, Elise and N. America Outreach Superstar Sandi DuBowski spent their time alongside team IDF working with the six selected filmmaking teams, honing campaign goals and pitch asks - all generously hosted by the British Council (thank you!).

But the crowning glory was Tuesday. Joined by 120+ guests, the room filled to bursting as the day progressed, word spreading across the Mumbai International Film Festival. Highlights included the opening of the day by Bollywood big cheese Jaaved Jaffrey; spontaneous donations from audience members and roundtable experts alike; 50 lakhs and an offer of co-production for Love Commandos from Indian internet dating site; a 1.5 lakh offering to 17 Not Required Indians; and not to forget the truck that was donated to Selvi from Driving with Selvi ("the smile that launched a thousand trucks!") parked up in all its glory outside the theatre.

We were delighted to be joined by firm friends from across the world - Ally Derks from IDFA, Wendy Ettinger from Chicken & Egg Pictures, Impact Producer Lina Srivastava - and to make such a wealth of new friends too, not least Moderator du Jour Kiran Rao, who can add "wrangling a table of unruly participants" to her already illustrious film production CV. Kavita Ramdas, who heads up Ford Foundation in India, summed up the extraordinary energy in the room - the day had seen a new approach to supporting film projects in India.

To say that we are excited at the prospect of returning to Mumbai in the future is an understatement. Congratulations are in order to each and every person on the Good Pitch² India team, but especially to the engine in the machine, Sophy Sivaraman.

Our thanks of course to Ford Foundation, without whose support, the Good Pitch² programme would not be possible.
