The film follows the members of a unit of the police force designated to eradicate against domestic violence in Bolivia.
Brigada is a documentary that follows the members of a special branch of the police, devoted to dealing with family violence. The documentary follows a group of five female and one male officer as they deal with the day to day tribulations of such peculiar work environment. We observe the police officers act as therapist and judges by imparting this “peculiar” justice on the different cases of domestic violence and spousal abuse they deal with. The documentary shows the officers in their leisure time, as they eat together, watch soap-operas and discuss their personal relationship issue. By juxtaposing their personal histories with their role in society the documentary raises questions about the role of gender and several other underlying problems in underdeveloped Latin America.
