This intimate culture documentary will explore the lived experiences of Black Puerto Rican women as they use their body to wield spirit, power, and cultural memory. Whether it be at the site of a strip club, Bomba ceremony, altar, or in the home, this personal and poetic montage will bring forth a holistic view of the complexity found in being categorized as La Negra/Morena in Puerto Rican society. Racial hierarchy is organized according to skin color, facial features, hair texture, social status, occupation, ancestry and birthplace in Puerto Rico. I will be looking at the term Morena, Negra, mulata, la grifa and it's race politics; how complexion determines identity, experience, and social spheres on the island and the naming of individuals in colonial history. Furthermore, how has the black woman been exoticized in Puerto Rican society? How has that affected visibility and self-connection?

Este íntimo documental cultural explora las experiencias vividas por las mujeres negras puertorriqueñas mientras usan su cuerpo para profesar su espíritu, poder y memoria cultural. Ya sea en un club de striptease, baile de bomba, altar o el hogar, este montaje personal y poético brindará una visión holística de la complejidad de ser categorizada como La Negra / Morena en la sociedad puertorriqueña. La jerarquía racial está organizada de acuerdo con el color de la piel, los rasgos faciales, la textura del cabello, el estatus social, la ocupación, la ascendencia y el lugar de nacimiento en Puerto Rico. Exploraré el término Morena, Negra, mulata, grifa y su política racial; cómo la tez determina la identidad, la experiencia y las esferas sociales en la isla y las formas de nombrar a los individuos en la historia colonial. Además, ¿cómo se ha exotizado a la mujer negra en la sociedad puertorriqueña? ¿Cómo ha afectado eso la visibilidad y la conexión con sí mismas?
