We convened the live event in the spectacular modern Black Diamond extension to the Royal Danish Library (Det Kongelige Bibliotek) on Copenhagen’s waterfront on 24th March 2017. Good Pitch Europe 2017 was a great success and welcomed 384 participants from 228 organisations from 29 countries (a definite new record on all fronts for Good Pitch Europe!).

All participants came together to learn more about seven outstanding film projects featuring urgent stories that are of concern worldwide. The seven projects were drawn from 105 entries from 29 countries. The award-winning European filmmakers participating in the 2017 programme include Julia Dahr, Julie Lunde Lillesæter & Kisilu Musya from Norway/Kenya (Thank you for the rain); Anna J. Ljungmark & Marie Skovgaard from Sweden (Femimam); Jan Gebert & Viktória Hozzová from Czech Republic and Slovakia (When the war comes); Feras Fayyad, Steen Johannessen & Sören Steen Jespersen from Denmark and Syria (Last men in Aleppo); Tim Travers Hawkins, Julia Nottingham & Isabel Davis (XY Chelsea); Sky Neal, Julia Farrington, Elhum Shakerifar (Even when I fall); Joakim Demmer, Glynnis Ritter & Kerstin Übelacker (Dead donkeys fear no hyenas).

These urgent stories from around the globe include the first portrait of former intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning as she appeals her 35 year sentence, the exploration of the rise of an ultra-nationalist youth movement in Slovakia, two years spent with the band of friends and neighbours as they try to survive the siege of Aleppo, a Kenyan farmer’s moving account of resistance from the frontline of climate change, inside the creation of the first mosque in Europe run by female Imams, the remarkable journey of a group of artists and child trafficking survivors from Nepal, and a cautionary tale of international development policy gone awry with an expose of land-grabbing in Ethiopia.

Pledges of help, advice, funding and networks for the seven selected film teams included: direct donations to support the Syrian families featured in the film Last Men In Aleppo, access to high-level policymakers, decision makers and corporate leaders (Thank You For the Rain), offering of screenings for interfaith communities (Femimam), help with developing educational guides (When The War Comes), sharing of expertise and research materials (Dead Donkeys Fear No Hyenas), access to business consultancy and mentorship for Circus Kathmandu (Even When I Fall), and even clothes donated by Vivienne Westwood to Chelsea Manning upon her release from prison (XY Chelsea)!
